Since the very first Southern-Fried Gaming Expo, we’ve hosted a world-class pinball tournament. Through the hard work and dedication of tournament directors, repair staff, scorekeepers, and more, we’ve been able to attract some of the top pinball players in the world while still catering to the local competitive community and newcomers alike. As we continue to grow and move into our 11th annual event in 2024 we’re seeking a new Southern-Fried Pinball Tournament director.
Who we’re looking for:
Someone who is not only passionate about competitive pinball and catering to that community, but is willing to be open to attracting new players and a maintaining a sense of fun. Ideally, we want someone with a history of running medium to large tournaments (40-100+ participants) and can stay cool under pressure. We’re also seeking someone who can tap into an existing networks for tournament support, repair technicians, and prize support. This role is an SFGE crew chief position and the person filling this role will be required to work with SFGE leadership and volunteers.
Our desired tournament structure:
At a minimum, we’re seeking someone to organize at least three tournaments over the 3-day weekend (July 19-21, 2024). Ideally this would be a main tournament, either a classics or a more laid-back pin golf-style (or other) event, and a women’s tournament. You’re welcome to organize and add more to the mix, but don’t over do it and stress yourself out to appease the hardcore tournament players. Our tournament director decides the cost of entries, the percentage paid out to players, and prizes.
What you’ll receive:
We know that a lot of pre-planning and on-the-spot work goes into running an event like this and we want to support you. That’s why our tournament director will receive:
- Free 4-night hotel stay at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel & Convention Center
- Complimentary meals & supplemental cash per diem
- $300 payout from SFGE (This is in addition to any SFGE-agreed-upon tournament expenses derived from entry fees)
- SFGE swag (t-shirts, posters, etc)
- Logistical support from SFGE organizers wherever possible
